Description

Neil Josten is the newest addition to the Palmetto State University Exy team. He's short, he's fast, he's got a ton of potential—and he's the runaway son of the murderous crime lord known as The Butcher.

Signing a contract with the PSU Foxes is the last thing a guy like Neil should do. The team is high profile and he doesn't need sports crews broadcasting pictures of his face around the nation. His lies will hold up only so long under this kind of scrutiny and the truth will get him killed.

But Neil's not the only one with secrets on the team. One of Neil's new teammates is a friend from his old life, and Neil can't walk away from him a second time. Neil has survived the last eight years by running. Maybe he's finally found someone and something worth fighting for.

The first time I read this book I was so into it that I don’t think I realized how dragged out and king of boring it was. The characters were definitely great and funny but the overall plot wasn’t very interesting. Neil as a whole character honestly didn’t make sense and didn’t really have any valid reasons for his actions which I found kind of stupid(just like Neil). I’m still definitely emotionally attached to the characters just as much as the first time but it still took too much effort that shouldn’t have been needed to finish rereading the book. 3/5.

this book has Big Disgusting Energy and I hate it so much. the writing is absolutely terrible and does a remarkable job of telling, not showing! wow, thanks for giving us terrible time transitions that don’t make sense & character development that’s inconsistent! hey, has this book ever heard of indirect characterization or atmospheric writing? lol.
  • Really love the plot

I think the idea of the story is great and I love that it’s taken slow and split up into 3 separate books to really dive into the plot. However, the style of writing is confusing and times and I had trouble understanding certain parts, especially the beginning. If you give it an honest chance thought it will surprise you!

This is by far one of the best book series I’ve had the honor of laying my eyes on. You will be hooked. You might as well get the first one, I mean it’s free for crying out loud.

This book is one of the most impactful books I’ve ever read, The whole series really. The message portrayed is just so touching. So many kids from all different hells come together and learn that family does not mean those whom you share blood with, family is those who you choose to spend your life with. Those who you choose to protect and those who choose to protect you. And are willing to sacrifice their every bit for you.

There are no words to describe how perfect this entire series is. It pulls you in immediately, and doesn’t let go even long after you’ve finished. You feel everything that Neil goes through, the characters feel real, and it’s PAINFUL. The plot is amazing, the writing is absolutely superb. Honestly, what’s not to love about this whole series, definitely one of my absolute favorites. 10/10 read, you won’t be able to put it down- I know I couldn’t. (Didn’t sleep for three days)
